Tampa FAQ
The questions people search most about living in Tampa, answered.Where is the best place to live in Tampa, FL?
It depends on how you want to live. South Tampa (Hyde Park, Palma Ceia, Davis Islands, Bayshore) is the pick for walkable, waterfront and historic living close to downtown. Westchase and New Tampa suit buyers who want newer homes and suburban space. Downtown and Harbour Island fit condo and Riverwalk living. Open the Neighborhood Guide above, or book a call and I'll match neighborhoods to your list.
How much does a house cost in Tampa?
The median sale price in the City of Tampa was about $450,000 in September 2026 (Redfin), up about 5% from a year earlier, and homes took about 60 days to sell. South Tampa neighborhoods like Hyde Park, Palma Ceia and Davis Islands run higher. Ask me for a price report on the exact neighborhood you're considering.
What is the nicest part of Tampa to live?
Buyers most often name South Tampa: Bayshore Boulevard, Hyde Park Village, Davis Islands and the historic streets of Palma Ceia. If you want golf-club living, look at Avila, Tampa Palms or Westchase.
What is the safest part of Tampa to live in?
Safety varies street by street, so look at the data for the exact address. Use the Tampa Police Department's crime maps and talk to neighbors. I'm happy to share tools for researching any area you're considering.
What salary do you need to live comfortably in Tampa?
SmartAsset's 2025 analysis puts the 'comfortable' salary for a single adult in Tampa near $100,000 a year, using a 50/30/20 budget. You can live in Tampa on less with a tighter budget, a roommate or a smaller home. Your lender and I can show you what payment fits your budget.
Why are some people moving out of Tampa?
The reasons people cite most are higher home insurance costs, hurricane risk and housing prices that rose quickly after 2020. Buyers who plan for insurance, flood zones and evacuation zones up front avoid most of those surprises. See the Hurricane Guide above.
Can you live on $3,000 a month in Florida?
It's tight in Tampa but possible with shared housing or a smaller home outside the priciest neighborhoods, and it's easier in lower-cost parts of the state. If buying is your goal, down payment assistance and the First-Time Home Buyer Challenge can help.
